Eamon Ó Cuív resigns as Fianna Fáil Deputy Leader

Eamon Ó Cuív (pictured in happier times during a student protest in Galway)resigned as Deputy Leader of Fianna Fáil today over his refusal to support the party’s position on the EU Fiscal Compact treaty. He said the whole issue is about the “fundamental future of Ireland” and to continue in his role would be “incompatible” as he does not support the fiscal compact ratification. Party leader Micháel Martin said it was “no longer feasible” for Ó Cuív to continue in his role as Fianna Fáil deputy leader and spokesperson on [...]

The site almost looks like a prison, with barbed wire looped at the top of the fence. Each gap has been covered. It’s difficult to enter the site now, but this wasn’t the case two [...]

Sunday Times journalist Marie Colvin murdered by Syrian army

Marie Colvin was murdered by the Syrian army today, while reporting on the civilian massacre in Homs, being perpetrated by the same Syrian military. Reports coming from Lebanese intelligence indicate that the make-shift press centre where Colvin was working from in the Baba Anr district of Homs, was deliberately targeted by Syrian army rocket fire. Rumours had been circulating for some days that the Syrian army was directly targeting foreign journalists in an effort to stop coverage of the civilian massacre unfolding in Homs. The 55 year old Sunday Times reporter [...]
