American scientists at the National Institute for Aging (NIA) have discovered how we can lose weight, delay age-related disease, boost brain function and significantly extend our life span.
A lifestyle based on fasting every second day is the answer. Its that simple. The concept is based on the fact that animals provided with the bare minimum of calories, will live up to twice as long. Research has shown that this type of diet protects the heart, brain and circulatory system from age-related diseases, including Alzheimers. Fasting every second day is almost as good as a uniformly low calorie intake, however little research has focused on this technique as scientists assumed most of us would lack the will-power to follow this type of regime.
Physiologically, when we fast on alternate days, cellular response pathways in neurons are activated and this helps rejuvenate the brain, boosting cognitive abilities and intelligence. Neurons are core components of our nervous system, including the brain and spinal chord and their primary function is to transmit electrical and chemical signals, essentially messages from organs and tissue to and from the brain and nervous system.
Would you have the will-power to adopt this kind of lifestyle?
