If you ask someone about their plans for Friday night, there’s a host of interesting answers you might receive. Generally though, heading down to the stadium to support the local League of Ireland club isn’t on the agenda. In terms of attendance among students, the League of Ireland is about as popular as bingo, or the Latin Mass. But there’s something about domestic football that continues to attract a hardcore support base, and at the Limerick-v-Finn Harps game in Jackman Park on Friday, I got a first-hand glimpse of [...]
Stokes fires Hoops into Scottish Cup fifth round
Anthony Stokes stretched Celtic’s unbeaten run to eleven consecutive games with an 82 minute hat trick quelling any hopes of a Peterhead upset. Despite bossing possession in the opening period, the away side failed to create a decent scoring threat until Cha squared for Stokes in the 27th minute. The Irishman blazed his shot well over. Ki tried his luck minutes later with a speculative drive clipping the top of the crossbar. However, a long range ball by McCourt found Samaras in acres of space. He unselfishly passed the ball to [...]

The Super Blues currently sit fourth in the table, a solitary point behind Monaghan. With Shelbourne having already sealed automatic promotion and Cork City’s goal difference far greater, Limerick will need to beat Waterford at Jackman Park and hope Monaghan drop points when they travel to Athlone Town. Even then, they will need to overcome Galway in a two leg promotion playoff. Limerick increased their [...]
