Studenty Sunday: Random Edition

Studenty Sunday: Random Edition

Every week Roisin Peddle takes a look at ten stories making the headlines here at Studenty.me. One of the silliest ads around at the moment is the one where the skydive instructor tells his bewildered skydivers to pull on the sheep clock which release their rubber duck and he’ll see them on the cupcake. In this spirit, I present a wide, diverse and even disparate group of articles for your edification this Sunday. (Can they tell I’ve ran out of ideas yet? Well, not if you don’t tell them- Ed). 1. Ireland’s drinking culture: Time for a change?

Ireland’s drinking culture: Time for a change?

Yesterday was Good Friday, one of the two days of the year that the pubs in Ireland are shut. Regardless of the fact that you can drink the other 363 days of the year, some see this as an absolute disaster. I watched a TV3 news report on all the places where you can still get a drink- trains, boats with passenger licences. Do we really need to find loopholes? Can we not go one day without buying drink? On Thursday outside the coroner’s court in Cork, two heartbroken parents [...]

Well, as someone once said, “The easiest way to become popular is to leech off the popularity of others.” In that spirit, I present a meme-inspired Studenty Sunday! 1. *Sucess baby* 2012 looks to be another great year for gaming, and Darran Goggin previews five games [...]

Hogan and Howlin pull strings to give WIT university status

Hogan and Howlin pull strings to give WIT university status

When Charlie McCreevey announced the white elephant that was the government’s decentralisation programme in 2003, 12 of the 53 rural locations chosen, were within constituencies of government ministers. A clear case of party before country. Enda Kenny promised a new politics in Ireland, following the blatant cronyism and paddywhackery practised by Bertie Ahern & Co. However, cynics fears have been confirmed following the announcement that Carlow and Waterford Institutes are to merge and form a new ‘technical university’. Coincidently, Carlow and Waterford/Wexford are constituences of cabinet TDs Hogan and Howlin. [...]

Dear Sorcha, I have no one else to turn to and I hear you are the best. I’m having serious problems in the bedroom and I need your help. My problem is quite embarrassing, so please be kind. Basically, when I get into bed beside my boyfriend I always need to fart just before I go to sleep. I’ve tried everything to stop the problem, like avoiding vegetables and bran before I hit the sack and spending ages on the toilet, trying to empty the bay doors, but no matter [...]
